This is a tutorial, originally made by Cluster, for how to update this beloved game and play with HD textures. This is a translated compact version of it (link for origianl tutorial and full information is down below), so all references in text goes to him. Here are screenshots for comparison (recommended to open them in new tabs to view in full size):
P.S. Again without the difficulties, as it turns out the game only recognizes only DXT3 format of DDS textures... (at first I used DXT1 compression and the game didn't display textures) I also added to the pack normal maps for weapons, if you want to play with them.
I just finished my first playthrough of the game today and just... wow ? how this game doesn't get talked about more is beyond me, it's absolutely stellar! I had originally found it on MyAbandonware and went in with zero expectations, but right out the gate it sought to impress players with it's uniquely animated cutscenes and Soviet-era art style. What starts off as an Outlast mixed with Condemned horror games quickly turns into a well paced FPS/horror hybrid, with a pretty unique story to boot! While I would advise to be weary of the graphic content found in the game, if your are a fan of horror and slick aesthetics, then this is an absolute must play! Don't doddle, download it!!
There is also the bizzarrely named "Remind of Empty" project by seemingly one of the original developers of the game. It was greenlit on Steam but nothing came out of it. As far as I know the project is alive, but the work is slow due to developer being busy with real life.
Well ... I read it just a week before you posted.Despite lots of bugs and some ridiculous enemies I loved the '50s USSR ambient of the game: the level Totalitarism should have been sand box to explore it all.I didn't know the STALKER relation with this game.
You Are Empty is a first-person shooter video game by Ukrainian developers Mandel ArtPlains and Digital Spray Studios. It was published by 1C Company in 2006. Atari later released the game in English in 2007.
The game is set in an alternate-history Soviet Union. It begins with the protagonist waking up in a ruined hospital, and it soon becomes clear that the populace has been afflicted by mutation and madness. He then must battle to stay alive and unravel the mystery.
You Are Empty features basic first-person shooter gameplay. Players can acquire a variety of both melee weapons and firearms, mostly based on real-world weapons such as a Mauser C96 pistol or PPSh-41 sub-machine gun. The sole exception to realism is the large electric gun, the last weapon the player receives.
The game's cutscenes flesh out the backstory by telling the life story of the master scientist responsible for the disaster. As a young boy, the scientist discovers that he has psychic powers that allow him to control other living beings. Becoming a scientific protégé, he develops plans for a massive psychic antenna that would amplify his power and broadcast it across the world, initiating a Great Transformation of humanity. The scientist also believes that he is a New Man, which is not directly stated in the cutscenes but rather hinted in them because during every cutscene the scientist must master his limits.
The game's protagonist is a mid-rank military officer who has an accident at his place of work. While he is unconscious, something happens and when he wakes up in a hospital he finds many homicidal mutants and the world in ruin. He fights with many homicidal mutants and investigates. He rarely meets with other survivors and encounters many surviving soldiers of the Soviet Army that are hostile to him and attempt to bring him to the high-ranking officer who tells him about the backstory behind this calamity before committing suicide.
You are Empty lacks any lighting or shader effects, and relies entirely on flat textures for the game's visuals. At E3 2006 the developers of You Are Empty gave GameSpot a private screening of the game. GameSpot expressed interest in the physics engine, saying that it might "have some unexpected consequences".[1]
There is a graphic problem with the latest Nvidia drivers (resulting in a white checkerboard corruption in the game). Before a patch was released, the developer suggested the players install an older Nvidia driver that was included in the game to solve the problem.[2]
The game received unfavorable reviews from critics. On the review aggregator GameRankings, the game had an average score of 40% based on 15 reviews.[3] On Metacritic, the game had an average score of 34 out of 100, based on 14 reviews.[4]
Brett Todd of GameSpot gave the game a rating of 1.5 out of 10, stating "It's hard to imagine how anybody could make the Stalin-era Soviet Union less appealing than it was in reality, but You Are Empty sure does the trick." Todd described the game as an "atrocity" and a "painful exercise in shooter stupidity." Todd opined the English translations from the original Russian are "awful", the game has a slow, boring pace, the monsters are "mostly ripped off from other games" (mentioning Doom, Painkiller, Serious Sam, Silent Hill, and Redneck Rampage), and the missions are "geared around hunts for keys and levers." Todd did say that "some of the music can be effectively creepy." Todd ended his review by saying, "the nihilistic name of the game is never explained. Now move on with your life and try to pretend that games like You Are Empty don't exist."[5]
is it safe to delete files in the download folder, since the files were saved someplace else on my computer. Will deleting & purging the download folder effect the way any of the programs work that I have downloaded?
Since downloading is such a common action, the popular operating systems (you don't mention which one you use), include for convenience a directory called Downloads in the installed directory structure. It's set as the default download location so users can start using the computer without needing to configure that.
Directly executable programs don't get installed, you just run them. You can do that in the download directory or move them somewhere else. To run them, you either go to the directory where they are, issue a command that includes the path to where they are, or create a shortcut of some kind that knows where the executable is located. If you move or copy an executable to somewhere else, any shortcut will need to be updated to point to where it is.
Software installation packages typically unpack the actual software files or download the ones you need, and store those elsewhere, creating system links to the working files. The installation package is then unnecessary. You can delete it, or save it in case you want to reinstall it without having to download it again. You can move or copy it; it won't make any difference where you run it from; it will always install its files where they are supposed to go.
Note, though, that a few packages will set up the working files wherever the installation package sits, especially if the instructions say to move the installation package to a destination directory before running it, or you are inattentive and miss a prompt asking where to install it. So verify that the download directory does not contain any working files or a child directory with working files. If it does, the easiest solution is to uninstall it and then reinstall it in the desired location.
Summary: Within the limitations described above (e.g., system links pointing to where the working files are stored, no inadvertent software installation in the download directory, and all files having copies elsewhere), the copies in the download directory are redundant and can be deleted without affecting anything. But there is no benefit to deleting the Downloads directory, itself.

You can also choose to have all downloads removed at the end of your browsing session. This can be done by checking the box next to Cookies and Site Data. Your cookies and site data will be automatically deleted when Firefox closes.
Macs save downloaded files to Downloads by default, so first open a Finder window and select Downloads from the left-hand column. Then select the files from the Downloads folder you want to delete and drag and drop then into the Trash. Note that a file's download destination can be changed, so you may need to search for specific files in order to find them.
Deleting and reinstalling the Spotify app will clear all of your saved playlists and music downloads, but if you don't want to delete everything there's another way. From the app, open your Library and find an album to delete, then select the three dots next to Download and select Delete Playlist, then confirm. 781b155fdc
